Umatilla National Forest July 27 Fire Update

Multiple fire related temporary area closures are in effect for Umatilla National. Forest Closure descriptions and maps are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/umatilla/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5286768.

Fire update

Double Snag Fire - Accurate mapping with GPS has determined the fire to be 131 acres and 10% contained. It is located approximately 1½ mile northwest of Winom Campground, on the north side of Forest Road 52. Management of the fire transitioned from the Northeast Oregon Type 3 Team to a local Type 4 team this morning.  A total of 69 personnel comprised of two hand crews, two falling modules, two engines, six masticators and one dozer plus operators will continue active suppression operations today.

Yesterday crews continued constructing contingency line along Forest Road 52 as well as prep work around the Pearson Cabins by removing brush, grass and other fuels around the cabins. A firing operation was carried out along the western perimeter and was successful in removing fuels adjacent to and securing the containment line.

Today, prep work will continue along Forest Road 52 and in the Pearson Cabins area. If conditions permit, a firing operation will take place along the eastern edge of the fire to improve and strengthen the containment line.

Weather: Mostly sunny with increasing clouds in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures 75-85°, Humidity 15-22%, Winds light from the northwest.  Cooler temperatures and light winds over the past two days have kept fire growth in check.

In addition, the following incidents are burning on or near the Umatilla National Forest and are being managed by partner agencies and Complex Incident Management Teams.
