Umatilla National Forest July 24 Fire Update

Multiple fire related area closures are in effect for the Umatilla National Forest including areas on the Heppner, North Fork John Day, and Pomeroy Ranger District. Closure descriptions and maps are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/umatilla/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5286768.

Fire update

Double Snag Fire is currently 98 acres and 5% contained. It is located approximately 1½ mile northwest of Winom Campground, on the north side of Forest Road 52. The Northeast Oregon Type 3 Incident Management team is in command of this fire. Three hand crews, one engine, heavy equipment including 2 buncher fellers, 5 masticators and 1 dozer plus operators will be on the fire line today. The dozer line has been completed around the fire perimeter; today crews will work to improve the dozer line in preparation for burn out operations when conditions are favorable. Yesterday a type one helicopter provided critical support to suppression efforts on the ground; it will be available again today. Crews will do prep work around Winom Campground and the Tower Loop Trail as well as along Forest Road 52.

Taylor Creek Fire: is located 9 miles west of Ukiah, Or and is ½ acre. Initial attack crews responded to the fire on July 23, 2024. Today the fire will be monitored, any heat or smoke detected will be mopped up.

Weather: A Red flag warning remains in effect until 11:00 p.m. Wednesday for abundant lightning and wind. Thunderstorms are possible; Initial attack resources will respond to any new fire starts as they are reported and prioritized.

In addition, the following incidents are burning on or near the Umatilla National Forest and are being managed by partner agencies and Complex Incident Management Teams.
