Umatilla National Forest July 25 Fire Update

 

Multiple fire related area closures are in effect for the Umatilla National Forest including areas on the Heppner, North Fork John Day, and Pomeroy Ranger District. Closure descriptions and maps are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/umatilla/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5286768.

Fire update

North Fork John Day Ranger District: in the interest of public and firefighter safety during operations, fire managers are expanding the closure on the North Fork John Day Ranger District. Double Snag Fire, located approximately one and a half miles northwest of Winom Campground, on the north side of Forest Road 52, is currently 100 acres and 10% contained. The Northeast Oregon Type 3 Incident Management team in charge of the fire will continue prep work on the Winom Campground and Tower Loop Trail. Masticators and feller bunchers will work to improve the containment line around the perimeter of the fire in anticipations of burning operations that will occur when conditions allow. A total of 106 personnel comprised of four hand crews, two falling modules, one engine, heavy equipment including two feller bunchers, six masticators, one support truck, one dozer with operators and various support personnel will be on the fire line today.

Weather: There was significant lightning activity that occurred across the Blue Mountains region Wednesday evening. Resources will be monitoring these areas both on the ground and from airborne reconnaissance, looking for new starts.

In general, temperatures are cooler. Winds are expected to be light and variable today.

In addition, the following incidents are burning on or near the Umatilla National Forest and are being managed by partner agencies and Complex Incident Management Teams.
