Fire Update (2:30 p.m.) Firefighting resources continue to actively suppress the following fires across the Umatilla National Forest while providing for fire fighter and public safety.
The 80-acre
Double Snag Fire in the Winom Creek area, 11 miles southeast of Ukiah,
Oregon is burning in a dense, even aged stand of Lodgepole pine. A Northeast
Oregon Type 3 Incident Management team is managing this fire. Twenty-five fire
fighters assisted by heavy equipment are working to keep the fire north of
Forest Service Road 52 and to establish containment lines around the entire perimeter.
Additional personnel are scouting alternate containment line locations. Crews
will stive to protect cultural and recreational resources in the area.
The 15-acre
Big Creek Fire is located 12 miles southeast of Ukiah, Oregon. Twenty-two
fire fighters have achieved the desired suppression objectives with containment
line, patrol and mop up. Activities today will be to continue to monitor,
patrol and mop up. Resources will remain
on scene until the fire is declared controlled.
The 2-acre
Buck Mountain Fire is in the vicinity of Grouse Mountain, 21 miles south
of Walla Walla. The fire has not grown since fire fighters engaged on July 18. Fire
suppression efforts have proved successful with the fire now controlled.
Weather: A Red
Flag warning is in effect until 11:00 a.m. Sunday for high temperatures, low
humidity, chance of thunderstorms and gusty winds. Forecast weather will lead
to extreme fire behavior and challenge resources engaged in suppression efforts.

As a
reminder the current fire danger rating is EXTREME and public
use restrictions phase C will go into effect for Umatilla National Forest at 12:01
a.m. Monday July 22, 2024.
