PENDLETON, Ore. (July 20, 2024) — Multiple fire related area closures are in effect for the Umatilla National Forest including areas on the Heppner, North Fork John Day, and Pomeroy Ranger District. Fire updates
Firefighting
resources continue to actively suppress the following fires across the Umatilla
National Forest:
North
Fork John Day Ranger District:
· The 50-acre Double Snag Fire in the Winom
Creek Area, 11 miles southeast of Ukiah, Oregon. A type 3 incident management
team is managing this fire.

The 15-acre Big Creek Fire is located 12 Miles
southeast of Ukiah, Oregon.
·
Upper Winom, ¼ acre and Winom Butte 0.1-acre Fires are
contained.
Walla
Walla Ranger District:
·
The Buck Mountain Fire The fire has not grown
and remains at approximately 2 acres. It is in the Grouse Mountain Area, 21
miles south of Walla Walla, WA.
·
The 1-acre Rim Rock Fire in the Blalock
Mountain Area, 14 miles south of Walla Walla, Washington is contained.
In addition,
the following incidents are burning on or near the Umatilla National Forest and
are being managed by partner agencies and Complex Incident Management Teams.
The Battle
Mountain Complex is at 6,408 acres and 0% containment. Fire managers
will host a community meeting in Ukiah at 7:00PM at the City Park today, July
20. The meeting will be recorded and posted to Facebook. The complex consists of 2 fires that are
located 6 miles northwest and 6 miles southwest of Ukiah, Oregon. Oregon
Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 3 is managing the complex.
Additional resources have been ordered to assist with suppression. Yesterday
the fire crossed the North Fork John Day River and is continuing to move south.
High temperature, low humidity and steep rugged terrain are challenging

The Lone
Rock Fire is approximately 83,922 acres with 40% containment is located
near Lonerock, Oregon. Fire managers are holding a community meeting at the
Grade School Gym in Fossil, Ore. on Saturday July 20, 2024 at 6 p.m. Extreme
fire behavior is forecast through the weekend. OSFM taskforces will have a
significant presence in and around Spray, OR and will integrate with partners
to work the southwest and southeast side of the fire to slow or stop the

The Cougar
Creek Fire is approximately 5,384 acres with 7% containment. Extremely
steep, rugged terrain is challenging suppression efforts. Air resources
including helicopters and fixed wing aircraft are integral in supporting crews
on the ground. Efforts are being made to keep the fire from crossing Wenatchee
Creek, slowing the spread in the Grand Ronde River System; structural prep is
taking place where fire is threatening structures. For current information:
