Wallowa, Ore.: Today, the Winding Waters Complex, which consists of five fires, the Charlie Brown Fire, Courtney Creek Fire, MountainView Fire, Water Fire, and Big Canyon Fire, is now under command with our NEODistrict, Blue Mountain Interagency Dispatch Center (BMIDC), Type 3 team Incident Commander is Brock, beginning at 6:00 p.m. tonight. The complex is approximately 565 acres combined; these fires started on July 24, 2024, and the cause of the fires was lightning. Big Canyon Fire is resistant to control and has growth potential.
Active fire behavior is creeping and torching in spots, proving to be challenging with weather, terrain, and limited resources. These fires are burning on lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry, Northeast Oregon District, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Industrial Timberlands.
ODF resources, local Rural Fire Departments, Industrial operators, private contractors, and landowner representatives have played a huge role in suppressing these fires during such a difficult time procuring resources. Henderson Logging, BTO Logging, Hafer Brothers, and Tanzey Forest Improvement are operators involved with suppression efforts. Your support has been invaluable, and we are deeply grateful.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Wallowa County community for their incredible support. The local restaurants and stores have gone above and beyond to support the firefighting community, and we are truly grateful for their generosity.
