Umatilla National Forest July 31 Fire Update

Multiple fire related temporary area closures are in effect for the Umatilla National Forest. Forest Closure descriptions and maps are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/umatilla/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5286768.

Fire update [12:00pm]

Double Snag Fire – Containment remains at 50% today on the fire. “We caught a break with the cooler, wetter weather,” said Incident Commander Trainee Tim Wilson, “but the hotter and dryer weather that is expected will test the fire lines.” The team is keeping an eye on the potential for thunderstorms over the fire area in the coming days that may require a shift in firefighting resources.

Work on the 52 Road fuel break continues today with construction of contingency line by heavy equipment. Crews are focusing on mop up and ongoing fire suppression.

A total 49 personnel are assigned to the fire today, comprised of one hand crew, a falling module, two engines, five masticators and one dozer plus operators.

Weather:  Mostly sunny and hot. Clear tonight. Temperatures 84-92°, Humidity 21-30%, Light winds from the west.

In addition, the following incidents are burning on or near the Umatilla National Forest and are being managed by partner agencies and Complex Incident Management Teams.
