Current Situation: 

The Bologna Fire entered a new phase Tuesday as firefighters shifted more of the incident from active suppression to securing containment lines, expanding suppression repair. While operational objectives remain largely unchanged, incident managers continue evaluating staffing needs and right sizing the organization as suppression goals are met.

Firefighters will continue strengthening and improving containment lines, increasing mop-up where conditions allow and mitigating hazard trees to ensure residual heat does not compromise established lines. Firefighters also remain prepared to support initial attack on any new wildfire starts in the surrounding area, while continuing suppression efforts on the Bologna Fire. As containment improves, suppression repair work continues expanding westward along the southern portion of the fire. Crews are repairing indirect dozer and hand lines, while using chippers to reduce slash and restore areas disturbed during suppression efforts. Resource Advisors are working alongside Umatilla National Forest staff and operations personnel to help guide suppression repair activities.

As resources become excess to the incident's needs, personnel and equipment are being demobilized, making them available for future assignments as needed. Logistics personnel continue processing equipment returns and preparing supplies for reassignment, while the incident organization is gradually scaled to match current operational needs. Emergency notifications and evacuation updates continue to be coordinated through local emergency management agencies. Residents are encouraged to monitor official county information sources for the latest evacuation information.

Weather and Fire Behavior: Warm, dry conditions and high fuel loads will continue to support active fire behavior today. Westerly winds will develop through the late morning, shifting to the northwest this afternoon at light speeds, but even with lower wind speeds there remains potential for increased fire activity.
