Cause:  Lightning/Natural

Current Situation: Crews are diligently working to reinforce containment lines throughout all divisions, even as lingering heat remains a challenge in the grass and timber fuels. Firefighters are employing extensive hose lays to access hotspots, and they are systematically increasing the depth of mop-up operations along control lines. As conditions permit, teams are moving further from the perimeter, extinguishing hidden pockets of heat and ensuring residual embers are fully cooled. This thorough approach reduces the risk of fire re-ignition and enhances the security of the lines. Additionally, personnel are identifying and mitigating hazard trees to safeguard ongoing efforts, while reinforcing containment along Happy Jack Ridge and Roads 020, 180, and 181 to strengthen overall fire control measures. 

The team is collaborating closely with the Umatilla National Forest to develop and carry out rehabilitation efforts on both dozer and hand lines as conditions allow. Additionally, the team is actively collaborating with county Emergency Managers to coordinate and refine evacuation notification levels, ensuring clear communication and timely updates for affected communities. 

Emergency notifications and evacuation updates are coordinated through local Emergency Management. Residents near the fire area are encouraged to stay informed through official fire information.   

Weather and Fire Behavior: The fire remains active in short dry grass and timber with grass understory, producing occasional single‑tree torching and short‑range spotting. A westerly wind pattern will develop today, beginning from the southwest and shifting to the west and northwest through the afternoon. Relative humidity will drop into the upper teens, and gusts may exceed 20 mph—conditions that could push the fire to the south and east during peak heating. Warm, dry conditions will persist, keeping fuels available for active spread in areas with heavier grass loads.
