Current Situation: Firefighters are increasing mop up depth where safe, focusing on areas that could present future control concerns and cooling remaining pockets of heat along key stretches, including Happy Jack Ridge and other interior areas. Crews continue to strengthen containment lines across all divisions as moderate smoldering and creeping fire behavior persists in timber with short grass. Crews now have increased access to water thanks to additional resources, including tenders, vehicles used to transport and deliver large quantities of water to engines, crews, and equipment working on the fire line. Personnel are also identifying and mitigating hazard trees while working deeper into the interior to ensure residual heat does not compromise established lines. Firefighters remain ready to provide initial attack support to potential new wildfires in the area.

As containment improves, firefighters have started implementing suppression repair tactics along the southeastern side of the fire where crews are rehabbing dozer and hand lines and using chippers where appropriate to process slash and restore fireline disturbances. Resource Advisors (READs) are working closely with Umatilla National Forest staff and firefighters as part of the suppression repair efforts.

Emergency notifications and evacuation updates are coordinated through local Emergency Management. Residents near the fire area are encouraged to stay informed through official fire information.                       

Weather and Fire Behavior: The fire remains active in short dry grass and timber with grass understory, producing occasional single‑tree torching and short‑range spotting. A westerly wind pattern will develop today, beginning from the southwest and shifting to the west and northwest through the afternoon. Relative humidity will drop into the upper teens, and gusts may exceed 20 mph—conditions that could push the fire to the south and east during peak heating. Warm, dry conditions will persist, keeping fuels available for active spread in areas with heavier grass loads.
