With fire conditions improving in some areas, forest officials and
fire managers will lift portions of the temporary closures. On Monday, August
12, Forest Service Lands on North Fork John Day Ranger District east of U.S.
Highway 395 and parts of both North Fork John Day and Heppner Ranger Districts
north of Forest Service Road 53, west of U.S. Highway 395 will reopen. A News

Fire
update
Conditions across the forest continue to improve with
no new starts and one remaining incident. “The Milk Fire is wrapping up but no
issues,” said Deputy Fire Staff Tyson Albrecht. Updates will continue to be published until
remaining fires on U.S. Forest Service lands are controlled.
Walla Walla Ranger District
• The Milk Fire in the Milk Shakes Area, 17 miles southeast of Walla Walla, WA. Currently 3.6 acres.
The Washington Department of Natural Resources continues to respond to the Wolf Fork Fire, which remains at 130 acres near North Touchet Road and 20 miles northeast of Walla Walla, WA. Umatilla Fire Staff are no longer assisting with this incident but stand ready to help if needed.

and dry conditions are expected to persist, and officials want to remind
everyone that the current fire danger
rating is at EXTREME and Public Use Restrictions involving chainsaw use and campfires are in effect.

partner agencies and Complex Incident Management Teams.
