 Salmon Fire and Olive Butte Fire Daily Update August 4, 2026

Total Resources: 27 engines; 10 crews; 20 heavy equipment; 24 water tenders; 464 personnel

Evacuations in Baker County and Grant County were downgraded from GO to SET yesterday, but closures remain in place. Residents, homeowners, and landowners must provide identification at security checkpoints to enter closure areas and access their property.

Crews continue to strengthen containment lines, patrol and monitor for hot spots, and prepare to shift into rehabilitation and repair in some areas. As temperatures rise over the coming week and relative humidity remains low, firefighters and the public are asked to stay prepared as conditions remain conducive to wildfire.

“As residents and landowners return to their properties, please remember changes can occur at any time, please maintain a way to receive notifications and be prepared. Be aware that firefighters and large equipment are still operating nearby, and that fire risk remains,” Incident Commander Lino Baca.  

Salmon Fire- Size: 1,426 acres | Start Date: July 8, 2026 | Cause: Lightning | Containment: 79% 

Fire crews continue to evaluate the placement of sprinklers and are beginning to prepare for rehabilitation. Crews will continue a patrol and monitor approach on containment lines as they begin backhauling equipment.

Olive Butte Fire- Size: 3,092 acres | Start Date: July 8, 2026 | Cause: Lightning | Containment: 66%

Crews continue to address hot spots and unburned areas near containment lines as they begin planning for rehabilitation and relocation of equipment.

Weather: The weather pattern will begin shifting as surface ridging intensifies off the Pacific Northwest coast. While this building ridge will sustain a continuous northerly flow, winds are expected to remain relatively light. In response to the ridge, temperatures will launch a steady upward climb back into the 80s.

Evacuations: Evacuations have been downgraded from GO to SET. Property owners may access property by showing identification at check points. Stay up to date on evacuation orders by visiting the Baker County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Conditions can change quickly. Heavy equipment and fire vehicles are still working in these areas, please drive with caution and be alert for unexpected fire traffic on narrow roads.
