KEY MESSAGES
- Hagen Fire Expanded Emergency Closure Lifted Yesterday, U.S. Forest Service officials lifted the Hagen Fire Expanded Emergency Closure area north of Highway 204 on the Walla Walla Ranger District. The Hagen and Horse Ridge Fire Emergency Closure south of Highway 204 and the Paradise Fire Emergency Closure around the Mill Creek Watershed are still in place.

CURRENT CONDITIONS AND PLANNED ACTIVITIES
Paradise Fire
Firefighters continue to make excellent progress securing and mopping up prior tactical firing operations in the Mill Creek drainage and around the intake, as well as along Forest Service Road 65. Work planned for today is like previous days—strengthening and improving existing control lines, assessing and implementing tactical firing opportunities, mopping up to secure prior burn operations and securing the fire’s perimeter. Aviation resources, including helicopters and uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) continue to provide vital support to firefighters on the ground, including tactical firing operations and reducing hotspots and information gathering.
Hagen Fire
Firefighters continue to secure and mop up containment lines across the Hagen Fire. Increased acres are due to tactical burning to bring fire closer to containment lines, especially along Highway 204. Heavy equipment work is almost complete along Forest Service Road 31. UAS and crews on the ground will perform tactical firing in areas along the fire’s eastern and southern edges to secure control lines. Aviation will continue to support on-the-ground resources throughout the day and overnight, protecting private lands and other important resources near containment lines.
When asked how he thought progress was going, Walla Walla District Ranger Johnny Collin said, “The team has been able to tie into existing treatments on the east side of Hagen adding into the success of containment lines and limiting the severity of fires and making operations safer for firefighters.”
WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
High temperatures will reach 78-81 degrees with relative humidity between 36-40%. Winds will start at 3-7 mph this morning, increasing to 12-16 mph with gusts around 23 mph this afternoon. Most of the active fire spread in the Mill Creek area should subside today and fire behavior is expected to lessen. Tactical firing operations may continue when favorable weather and fire behavior conditions permit.
