PENDLETON, Ore. (Sept. 9, 2025) —The Rocky Flat Fire, located approximately 2 miles southeast of Fairview Campground and 8 miles northeast of Spray, Ore. on the Heppner Ranger District started Sept. 8 around 6:50 p.m. from lighting and is approximately 50 acres. We urge the public to drive with caution when traveling on Forest Service Road 24 and on Heppner-Spray Highway 207 due to increased fire traffic and visible smoke.
Umatilla
National Forest, along with Oregon Department of Forestry’s Central Oregon and
John Day units, Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office and Wheeler County Fire and
Rescue enabled an aggressive initial response overnight and remained on the scene
assisting in the full suppression effort. Crews continue working to minimize
the impact of this fire. Currently two engines, a dozer, a Type 2 water tender,
a Type 2 IA crew, a Hotshot crew and additional other crews are involved in suppression.
Fire
managers will continually assess resource needs based on fire spread and
behavior. Halting the growth of this fire and public safety will continue to be
a priority task for fire crews.

The current fire danger rating is at HIGH and
public use restrictions phase A for Umatilla National Forest are in effect and
forest personnel will continue scouting for potential new smoke reports.
