Lick Creek and Green Ridge Fire Updates – Thursday, July 22, 2021 – 9:00 a.m.

Lick Creek Fire Current Situation: There have been no spots outside the line over the past three days. The fire acreage change is due to interior burning in unburned pockets that are filling in naturally.

Today’s Activities for Lick Creek Fire: Crews continue to mop up around the fire perimeter and patrol for hot spots with aerial reconnaissance. Crews will continue to be prepared to respond for initial attack if new fires start in the area.

Green Ridge Fire Current Situation: Structure protection measures have been completed around recreation residences at Little Turkey Tail and the Godman Guard station. Road systems have been prepared for burnout operations to the west of the fire along the 46 road. From the Panjab area north of the fire, fireline and hose lays have been constructed, connecting fireline from Meadow creek drainage to the 4022 road north of the Wilderness. On the east side of the fire, in the Wilderness, firefighters are slowing the spread of the fire with aerial support. About 50,000 gallons of retardant and more than 30 flight hours with four helicopters were part of yesterday’s operations. Firefighters are implementing a strategy to the north and east of the fire that considers the highest probability of success given the current limited availability of the specialized resources as well as the terrain and burning conditions. This strategy involves constructing an alternate, or contingency line along the 4022 road to the north of the fire.

Today’s Activities for Green Ridge Fire: Air support will continue check and delay the progression of fire movement through bucket drops, provide reconnaissance and support ground resources. Firefighters will fortify road systems and hand lines in preperation for burn operations when conditions are appropriate. Contingency lines are being constructed north and south of the fire.

Weather and Smoke Information: Temperatures will warm back into the 80s in the mountains and upper 90s for the lower valleys.  Dry conditions are expected to persist. Smoke Information is available on the Washington Smoke Blog at: https://wasmoke.blogspot.com/
