Northwest Incident Management Team 6, a Type 2 team, will be transferring command of the HK Complex to a local Type 4 team at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, August 14th.  At that time, information about the incident will be communicated through the Umatilla National Forest.  Much of the incident’s success was due to the strong support of the Heppner Ranger District and assistance from the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Approximately 200 personnel have been demobed from the incident in the last two days.

There has been minimal fire behavior.  The areas with active fire behavior are in unburned drainages where the Sulfur Springs and Little Bear Fires joined along Bear Creek and the 21 Road.  The fire is creeping and smoldering inside interior pockets of unburned fuel.  This fire behavior will lead to continued periodic smoke in the air.

Temperatures are forecasted to be in the 70s to low 80s today with mild winds possibly gusting in the afternoons up to 20 miles per hour.

Public use restrictions pertaining to recreational chainsaw use, smoking, and off-road travel have been lifted on the Umatilla National Forest.  The full news release can be found at

In addition, a closure order issued by the Forest Service is still in effect due to fire activity in the area. The closure is formally referenced as Order Number T-2019-0614-UMA-02. Any restrictions and closure orders can be seen in full at www.fs.usda.gov/Umatilla.

A portion of the 21 Road remains closed to allow for fire traffic.  If traveling in the area, alternate routes are required.

With many resources leaving fire camp today and tomorrow, a lot of vehicles and equipment will be on the road.  Use caution and obey posted speed limits when driving.
