ODF Northeast Oregon District is making good progress on Indian Lake and Clarks Creek Fires (Final Release)

La Grande, OR- Firefighters in the district were busy over the weekend combating the Indian Lake and Clarks Creek Fires. Firefighters on both fires reported good progress and no additional fire growth on either incident. There will be no further updates on either fire unless conditions change warrant.
The Indian Lake Fire, 25 miles southeast of Pendleton, is 222 acres and approximately 65 percent contained. Firefighters are continuing to mop-up hotspots on the fire. The fire is human caused and an investigation into a specific cause is being conducted.
Firefighters are also continuing mop-up operations on the Clarks Creek Fire. The fire, located 7 miles southeast of Elgin, is approximately 80 percent contained this afternoon. The fire remains at 301 acres. The cause of the fire is unknown, but is being investigated at this time.
The weather forecast for the region is calling for a chance of thunderstorms Wednesday through Sunday. With abundant lightning forecasted, new fire starts are probable. Fire danger levels are EXTREME. Fire managers would like to remind people that Public Use Restrictions are in effect.
