ODF identifies seasonal firefighter injured in Saturday accident

La Grande, OR - The Oregon Department of Forestry identified the firefighter injured in Saturday’s motor vehicle accident as Jesse Boyd of Heppner. Boyd was transported by Life Flight to an area hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries. His condition is listed as stable.

Boyd has worked for ODF as a seasonal firefighter for three years. Boyd was operating a 1,600 gallon water tender at the time of the accident. The accident occurred when Boyd was traveling from the Indian Lake Fire, 25 miles southeast of Pendleton returning to his home station. The vehicle left the roadway, crossed the median and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of the interstate. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
