Ben Harrison Fire Update

[Aug. 17, 2023 – 11:30 a.m.]

Firefighters continue to make progress on the Ben Harrison Fire, which is now estimated to be 95 acres in size and 90% contained. The fire is located in steep, rugged, heavily timbered, terrain approximately two miles south of Olive Lake on the North Fork John Day Ranger District.

The fire has had minimal fire behavior over the past few days and has not expanded outside of the established perimeter. Firefighters continue to scout for spot fires and suppress interior fuels that still have heat. Despite the high daytime temperatures, cool nighttime temperatures and overnight humidity recoveries have aided in stopping the fire’s spread.
