Wind driven Cabbage Fire burning near Pendleton along Interstate 84


Pendleton, OR-Fire resources are responding to a wind-driven wildfire burning near Interstate 84, 6 miles southeast of Pendleton. The fire is approximately 80 acres and is burning in open timber stands and grass. Winds in the area are estimated to be 15 mph.
The fire is threatening 8 primary residences and 16 outbuildings. Traffic impacts are minimal at this point, however, motorists are encouraged to check www.tripcheck.com for current traffic information.
Numerous agencies have provided resources for the firefighting effort. Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Fire Department, East Umatilla Rural Fire District, Pendleton Fire Department, , USFS, BIA and ODF resources are on scene. 10 engines, 2 helicopters, 4 Single Engine Air Tankers, 1 air attack, and 3 dozers have responded.
The public is reminded that ODF’s Northeast Oregon District has additional public use restrictions intended to reduce human caused wildfires in place. The Regulated Use Closure prohibits open burning, and restricts non-industrial chainsaw use, mowing and cutting of dry grass, and welding and cutting of metal.
